Overview

From Evidence to Action: Shaping Inclusive Displacement Policies.

The Forced Displacement Research Chair Programme is a flagship initiative of the Centre for Migration Studies (CMS), University of Ghana, funded by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada. The programme is designed to address the urgent and complex challenges of forced displacement in West Africa through a gender-transformative, interdisciplinary, and evidence-based research agenda.

Our work is grounded in the belief that effective responses to displacement must go beyond temporary solutions and address the structural inequalities—social, economic, legal, and political—that perpetuate vulnerability among displaced populations. We are committed to inclusive research that amplifies the voices and lived experiences of displaced individuals across diverse settings—urban and rural, within and outside camps, and with varying legal statuses.

With a strong focus on gender equality, the programme integrates rigorous gender analysis across all areas of research, ensuring that outcomes support the development of responsive policies and practices that meet the specific needs of women, men, and marginalized groups affected by displacement.

Our research outputs—including datasets, policy briefs, and practical recommendations—are disseminated widely to inform national, regional, and global efforts aimed at creating equitable, lasting solutions to forced displacement.

We work collaboratively with academic institutions, policy actors, humanitarian agencies, and communities to shape a future where migration governance is just, inclusive, and sustainable.
